Representatives from Enterprise Car Hire will be promoting the car hire service on Tuesday 29 May at lunchtime in the Hub.

Visit Spirent in the Hub between 10.00-15.00 on Wednesday 30 May to discuss the latest innovations and see new hardware for the award-winning Spirent TestCenter system.

Spirent is a global leader in test and measurement solutions designed to address emerging technologies – including Broadband, MPLS, high speed Ethernet, IPv6, mobility, applications & security, SDN, datacentre, cloud computing and virtualisation.

The Suffolk Police Community Officer will be in the Hub at lunchtime on Monday 21 May.

Prospect will be in the Hub on Tuesday 22 May at lunchtime.

There will be displays in the Hub on Wednesday 23 May that will be staffed by Age UK Suffolk, Alzheimer’s Society, Ipswich Hospital and Suffolk County Council, where you can ask questions and get acquainted with their work.

On Thursday 24 May there will be a stand in the Hub promoting the Family Day being held on Saturday 23 June.

Representatives from Action for Children will be in the Hub at lunchtime on Friday 25 May to promote Byte Night 2012 and answer your questions. Byte Night is the IT industry’s annual sleep out in support of Action for Children.  

Byte Night is the IT industry’s annual sleep out in support of Action for Children. In 2012, Byte Night events will be hosted in London, Cambridge, Thames Valley and Scotland on Friday 5 October 2012.  Each year hundreds of individuals and teams from across the IT and business community spend a night exposed to the elements in a bid to raise sponsorship and awareness of Action for Children’s work.

It all began 12 years ago when 30 individuals from the IT industry slept out and raised £35,000. In 2011, over 800 people from the IT and business communities slept out in London, Cambridge, Thames Valley and Scotland and raised £750,000 for Action for Children.

Yes, it’s that time of year to dust off your walking boots (or wellies!) and make strides to walk to work. Get healthier and more active by taking part in Walk to Work Week. Following last year’s event:

• 57% of people felt that their overall level of walking had increased
• 49% walked some or all of their journey to work five days a week, compared with 27% before Walk to Work Week
• Half of people were 30 minutes or more physical activity on five or more days per week, compared with under a third before Walk to Work Week.
• They also told us that since taking part they feel fitter (45%), healthier (41%) and more active (39%).

There are four simple steps you can take get involved:

1. Register with the Living Streets enhanced website and start logging your walk to work distance.
   Prize draw for those who register and book your steps online – don’t forget to add BT Adastral Park as your workplace too.
2. Join us for a social lunchtime walk on the wild-side  on Monday 14th, Wednesday 16th or Friday 18th May to help you build up your muscles as well as your miles – leaving reception @12:15 prompt for a 2-3 mile stroll.

The Adastral Park travel plan manager, Andrew Cassy, will be walking to work again on Thursday 17 May, despite saying ‘never again’ after he first did this!  His journey will be 13 miles from the coast, through Rendelsham Forest, across Bromeswell Marsh, along the Deben river wall from Melton railway station through to Martlesham Creek, and up through the woods to site. There will be a re-fueling stop at the Caravan Cafe on the quayside in Woodbridge (behind the station) before setting off on the final leg. If you are en-route and wish to join him please do so – see google map with estimated timings.

Directed teaching for a specific topic may help children pass an exam or get a high mark for a homework task but it doesn’t prepare them to answer questions on different topics or help them to overcome challenges beyond school work.  Independent learning skills help a child to experience a situation or challenge they have never experienced before and enable them to utilise their independent skills to confidently solve the problem.

As children start to take ownership of their learning and experience success they also develop invaluable confidence and self-motivation. This can increase their enjoyment across a wide range of subjects at school whilst also preparing them for personal and professional success later in life. At your local Woodbridge Kumon Centre all children are nurtured to become confident, independent learners.

The format for the day is a question time style event where a number of experts will answer some of the questions you may have regarding dementia. There will also be displays in the Hub from 11.30-13.30 that will be staffed by Age UK Suffolk and related organisations and you can ask questions and get acquainted with their work.

The question time event will be held on Wed 23 May, in the Alan Rudge Theatre from 14:00-16:00, and is open to all colleagues in Adastral Park and Bibb Way. If you want to attend the event and/or have specific questions you want addressed by the experts please register your question and your intention to attend here. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please register by Friday 18 May 2012.
