On behalf of WRVS and its service user’s I would like to thank you and those who generously contributed gifts to the Christmas Giving Tree. It was another successful year with gifts going to WRVS recipients that are lonely, isolated and without family members around them to provide support.
With extended families dispersed around the country or even around the world, the festive season can be a very lonely and isolated time for many of our older community. Many older people live alone, and find that loneliness, more than any other problem, seriously affects their quality of life. Our volunteers play a vital role, giving up their time and to make life better in their communities. Together with WRVS they deliver professional services with a personal touch.
In total 489 gifts were distributed during Christmas Day & Boxing Day with a further 12 gifts on New Year’s Day. An amazing total of 501.
All gifts were greatly appreciated and feedback from both volunteers and service users expressed both gratitude and happiness on receiving these wonderful gifts. For many it was their only Christmas present.
Miss P said – “how wonderful and what a lovely surprise to receive a gift that is wrapped in pretty paper. I don’t usually celebrate Christmas now that I live alone”
Mr J said “my favourite are chocolate biscuits, lovely. What a treat this is”
Mr & Mrs A said “these are special to us as we really appreciate that someone cares and the dinner was tasty, Thank you and your staff for coming to us on Christmas Day .
Please pass on our thanks to everybody. We look forward to 2013 being the same success.
