Senior Manager - Innovation & Scouting (BT Americas)
Key qualifications: Finance/Business Degree, broad Range of experience in technology and strategy, good communication skills.
What does your job involve? Attending conferences, meeting a lot of companies, developing Strategies and PowerPoints, building collaborations with start-ups to large corporate and government to make innovation in the UK and globally. Best part of job: I get to play with all the best technology! Total confessed tech nerd and love seeing where technology is headed.
How did you get into your current role? Started in the energy sector in a grad rotation program. The UK government brought me to London a few years later to start a innovation division focused in marine robotics. Joined BT 3 years ago and launched their drone division.
What did you want to be when you were younger? I had NO idea. But I followed my interests and worked through it. I still don't 100% know what I want to be when I grow up - but I love what I do for work so pretty happy about that.
What do you do outside work? Travelling the world and exploring new cultures/experiences.

Dave
Innovation Consultant, BT
Key qualifications: CEng (IET), MSc (Telecommunications), BSc (Electronics, Physics and Computing)
What does your job involve? Attempting to figure out how and why technologies might be of benefit in the future and what roles BT could take in making that future a reality.
How did you get into your current role? Route into BT via an industry placement as part of the MSc course at Aston University. The four chapters to my time at BT began with software development, followed by technical and service designs for customer projects, moving onto product management/strategy, culminating in the best role ever - Innovation Consultant in the research business unit.
What did you want to be when you were younger? Chef!
What do you do outside work? Cycling, Reading, and just taking up digital art (very badly!)

Apprentice Researcher
Key qualifications: GCSE’s, A-Levels in Maths, Psychology, Physics and Economics.
What does your job involve? I look at how we can use/develop new technologies to benefit BT. I am always learning new things which I really enjoy and the best thing I have done as part of my job so far was travelling to Valencia to present some work at an international conference.
How did you get into your current role? I studied A-levels at Northgate Sixth Form and then applied for the apprenticeship scheme as an alternative way to get a degree. For first 2 years did 6 month rotations in different teams and have now settled into one of those teams for the remainder of my apprenticeship.
What did you want to be when you were younger? When I was really young I wanted to be a fireman, but as I got older I didn’t really know what I wanted to do so I just kept doing things which interested me and which I thought would give me a diverse skillset so I would have the freedom to choose later on.
What do you do outside work? I love playing sport with my favourite ones being basketball, tennis and swimming. I also love driving and in 2019 did a road trip round Europe where I visited 7 different countries and travelled over 2000 miles in 2 weeks!

Apprentice Researcher, BT
Key qualifications: A-Levels: Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science. Currently working towards: BSc Digital and Technology Solutions.
What does your job involve? As a research apprentice, I work in many different teams doing lots of projects. Previously, I had worked with Virtual Reality, Computer Viruses and Robotics to name a few. I am currently researching how to make writing and testing code easier by using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools.
How did you get into your current role? During High School and Sixth Form I got as much work experience as I could in coding so that when I finished Year 13, I applied for the apprenticeship instead of going to university. I am still on the apprenticeship and really enjoying it!
What did you want to be when you were younger? After seeing Indiana Jones when I was young, I wanted to be an Archaeologist just like him! But as I got older I started to enjoy using technology and building things, that’s when I wanted to be an engineer or software developer. Now I’m in research, I get to do both.
What do you do outside work? I spend most of my time listening to music, no matter what I’m doing! I also enjoy exercising and walking the dog in the countryside, as well as the usual Netflix and movie binging that most people like!
