Gary Aitkenhead joined Equinix in 2021 as Senior Vice President of EMEA Operations. He is responsible for overseeing the operations of Equinix's ~90 data centres across the EMEA region, delivering mission critical platform solutions to customers in 29 metros.

Before joining Equinix, Gary was Chief Executive of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory for the UK Ministry of Defence, playing a leading role in the transformation of Defence into the information age through advanced technology research and its application. Prior to that, Gary worked at Motorola as a senior global business leader in the mission-critical communications sector serving emergency services, utilities, and transportation users.

Gary grew up in Glasgow and graduated with First Class Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Strathclyde University. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
